Who regulates care homes, and where to read the inspections

There is no universal model for who watches over care homes — some countries run a single national regulator with public ratings, others place the entire competence at provincial or regional level with no national register at all. This table names, for seven jurisdictions, the body that regulates residential care for older people, how inspection works, and where its findings can be read — each row backed by a source verified against a retrieved document. Where the cited source does not establish a cell, the cell says so rather than guessing: for France and Spain, the national bodies steer and finance the system while day-to-day inspection is a regional matter their pages do not detail, and for Canada the absence of a national regulator is itself the sourced fact. In Great Britain the row names the English regulator; Scotland and Wales have their own inspectorates, listed among this page's sources and in the glossary.

How this is compiled

Aggregate, never mirror. Each row links straight to the regulator or public body that governs it, verified against a retrieved and versioned document. Where a column is not backed by the cited source, the cell says so explicitly instead of being filled in. Nothing on this page is monetized.
