There are two main types: residential homes, and nursing homes, which additionally have one or more qualified nurses on duty. Homes may be run by private companies, charities or local councils; nursing homes generally cost more. The Care Quality Commission regulates all care homes in England and publishes ratings from Outstanding to Inadequate.
