health condition, severe enough that they need help caring for themselves or supervision for their own or someone else's safety, having needed that help for at least six months. Faster rules apply near the end of life. It cannot be claimed alongside Disability Living Allowance, and someone in a care home usually cannot claim it if their care is paid for by their local authority.
